Zinc Gluconate

Image
Introduction Zinc gluconate is a white to almost white solid that is soluble in water, practically insoluble in anhydrous ethanol and methylene chloride. It is a popular form for the delivery of zinc as a dietary supplement providing 14.35% elemental zinc by weight. It is also used to treat the common cold. The structure is shown in fig. 1. Fig. 1 Structure of zinc gluconate Application as a dietary supplement The trace element zinc is critical to many biological processes. Zinc gluconate is a dietary supplement for the purpose of providing zinc. It mainly has the following functions. Maintaining appetite Zinc deficiency leads to taste decline, anorexia and partial food. As a dietary supplement, zinc gluconate is beneficial to maintain the normal appetite of the human body. Promoting growth and development Zinc deficiency in children and adolescents leads to growth retardation and gut microbiota dysbiosis. When zinc deficiency is severe, it will caused “dwarf” and poor intellect...

Epoxy-functionalized Pheromone: A New Generation of Pest Control

Image
Introduction Epoxy-functionalized pheromones  have been developed as a highly effective method for the control of insect populations. Pheromones are chemical compounds produced by animals as a means of communication, particularly for mating and territorial behaviors. Epoxy-functionalized pheromones have been modified with an epoxy group, which enhances their stability and longevity, making them more attractive to the target insects. In addition, the epoxy group allows for the controlled release of the pheromone, resulting in a more effective pest control strategy. This innovative approach has been applied to a range of insect species, including several agricultural pests, and has shown promising results in reducing the use of conventional insecticides. Furthermore, the use of epoxy-functionalized pheromones is considered environmentally friendly, as it decreases the release of harmful chemicals into the environment and minimizes the risk of resistant strains of insects. Over...

Characterization of Nanomaterials

What is Polycaprolactone?

Image
What is the Chemical Formula of Polycaprolactone? Polycaprolactone  is an organic high molecular polymer with the chemical formula (C 6 H 10 O 2 ) n . It has the property of being well soluble in aromatic compounds, ketones and polar solvents. It is made of ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone using a metal organic compound (such as tetraphenyltin) as a catalyst and dihydroxy or trihydroxy as an initiator. It is polymeric polyester. What are the Physical and Chemical Properties of Polycaprolactone? Polycaprolactone appears as a white solid powder, which is non-toxic, insoluble in water, and easily soluble in a variety of polar organic solvents. Polycaprolactone has good shape memory temperature control properties and the physical properties of a nylon-like plastic, softening to a putty-like consistency at just 60°C, which can be achieved easily by simply immersing it in hot water. The specific heat and conductivity of polycaprolactone are very low, and it is not dif...

Innovative Uses of Expandable Graphite

Image
Flame Retardant Properties of Expandable Graphite One of the most renowned characteristics of  expandable graphite  lies in its exceptional flame retardant properties. When exposed to high temperatures or open flames, this substance undergoes a remarkable transformation. Under these conditions, the layers of graphite expand, forming a highly insulating intumescent barrier. This intumescent mechanism effectively prevents heat transfer, flame propagation, and the release of toxic gases. Consequently, expandable graphite serves as a crucial component in fire-resistant applications across various industries. Notably, when incorporated into polymers, such as polyurethane foams, expandable graphite significantly enhances their flame retardancy, making them suitable for critical applications that prioritize safety, such as automotive interiors and building materials. Expandable Graphite for Energy Storage Beyond its flame retardancy, expandable graphite has also emerged as a p...
